Violinik,
alias Maurizio Borzone,
started the study of violin when was 7 years old (this explains the mental status
of the subject...) under Prof. Emilia
Garnier and parental supervision. It began in the conservatory in Genova with
the skilful teaching of Maestro Renato de Barbieri, he recieved the Diploma in 1990
with Prof. Giuliano Paganini. Attended assorted post-graduate classes,
such as three years at Music University of Salzburg in
Austria.
After a period of collaboration with Teatro Comunale dell'Opera "Carlo Felice" orchestra in Genova and with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI in Torino, he essentially applied himself to the study of Baroque and Classical music. For these studies he recieved the diploma of baroque violin obtained at Royal Conservatory of Music of Den Haag in Nederland.
He has played with the most respected artists in Europe, from Sigiswald Kuijken, Ton Kopman, Chiara Banchini, Jordi Savall to Jasper Christensen, Bart Kuijken, Monica Hugget, Ryo Terakado, of whom he was pupil. Concerts were worldwide, he played in Italiy, United States, Great Britain, France, Spain, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Nederland and Castellazzo Bormida.
Besides the collaboration with some baroque orchestras, such as "Accademia Bizantina", the ensemble "Risonanze", the "Venice Baroque Orchestra", he is a historical member since the very beginning of the baroque orchestra "Academia Montis Regalis" from Mondovì.
In 1998, he became conductor and director of a little opera by J.A. Hasse. Now he is finding score of baroque "Opere Buffe" and "Intermezzi". This as lead him to the foundation of the "Compagnia Italiana degli Intermezzi".
Several years now, Violinik has been active playing music such as Pop, Folk and even Rock. He was an invited guest violinist with the Immagin'Aria (Italian Rock Progressive) in the making of their first CD. Maurizio played in concerts with Hocus Pocus (New Country Band), and made soundtracks for some movies (I Giardini dell'Eden, Harem Suare, Ormai è Fatta) and for television (Distretto di Polizia1-2-3, two commercials for a Panty Hose company starring M.G. Cucinotta [yumm yumm]). He has even played in concerts of celtic music such as Cerchiomagico, Singing Pub.
With his interest in Genovese dialect, he found himself becomming a member of "Piccola Orchestra Genovese", with concerts and a successful TV show.
Recently he joined the merry fellowship of "Buio Pesto" band, with whom he played in summer tour 2002, the "Paganini Tour", (like the title of their last CD, "Paganini"... coincidence?), in which he played in 5 songs, 2 of them as "solo"violinist. In the Tour, he played for an audience of 90,000 people in three months, ending with the astonishing "sold out" concert at Teatro dell'Opera "Carlo Felice" in Genova.
His arrangement of the musical score for the string section in the song "Un Piccolo Amore", sung by Alina, brought 2nd place prize at the 53rd edition of "Festival di Sanremo".
This year Maurizio won the "Festival di Sanremo" as technician of Marco Masini.
In a different aspect of Maurizio's life, lets look into the "Irish side" of his music. Violinik founded a band with friend Paolo Baglini, named "Les Violinik". This crazy group of people play traditional Irish and Scottish music with a rock sound. Along with Maurizio's violin, there is the presence of Paolo Baglini's electric bass, Marco Galvagno's guitar and Danilo Straulino's drum.
